Not too many days ago, the public's collective attention was completely engaged by the Olympian achievements of our Indian athletes. After Rio, its now Jio which has got us all sitting up in our chairs like never before. Free voice calls? Lower data tariffs? Who wouldn't squeal in excitement?
It seems like just yesterday that the wonder of internet connectivity and smartphones transformed our lives. From food to clothing, you can get it all at the touch of a button. Like Amazzy, there are plenty of energetic young enterprises that have made lives easier for customers through the digital transformation. And with Reliance's promise of greater and cheaper connectivity, we all seem to be headed towards even better times.
What exactly has Reliance promised? For starters, there's free services till 31st September to convince you of their reliability. Then there's free voice calls (which really makes us envy the next generation of youngsters who can talk to their girlfriends without worrying about their wallets). The SIMs are available free of cost as well. The 4G network will cover 18,000 cities/towns and over 2 lakh villages, targeting to cover 90% of the population by March 2017. Other telcos will have to slash prices and buck up as well, or risk losing their customer base.
A happy customer is the only kind who will keep coming back for more. Its about time businesses everywhere started remembering that customer indeed is king. And every time they forget, we hope to see the rise of a new Jio to wake us up to the importance of service, quality, price and loyalty.
